Copenhagen 11-08-2010 | 19:00 | Gallery Bumble & Bumble Showscene : IS was invited to this runwayshow and into the universe of Jakob Birgens with his AW10 collection, where he breaks with today’s excess consumption and “one season wonders”. They say: “Quality over quantity” will always prevail at Frost Birgens. Across the building where The Gallery fair takes place a large tent hosts different runwayshows this week. Callette Terhaerdt, Co-Owner of Market Link, the company that organized and guides our trip, came with me to this menswear show. As we needed to rún from gallery to the City Hall right after this show to be on time at the Rützou show at 20:00 we couldn’t take time and excape from the rain: (but we kept on smiling!)
Evolutionized
At this point I know that also Copenhagen knows what ‘fashionably late’ is all about but we were so lucky to get seated on the front row to have a great view and to get up and run away to Rützou ahead of the crowd.
Frost Birgens is not well known in Holland yet and it was also for me the first time I’d see a show of this label. Most typical for me was the clash between ‘nurd’ and farmer, maybe the look came closest to a bit Amish kind of style. Smoking shirts were combined with sweatpants and shorts, I saw loose fitted shirts in plain or checked linen, accessories in used leather look and the models wearing boots and strawhats. I liked the contrasting ribbons that were stiched on the inside leg seams and the farmer underwear details. Leggings (as long underwear pants) were worn underneauth the shorts and the chinos were rolled up which gives a carrot shape effect. Twill, velvet, raw canvas and suede makes the look of the shirts and chinos appeal to the working man as well as the impeccable gentleman. The knitwear in this collection vary from soft cotton to delicate merino and fine lamb.
