Copenhagen Fashion Week. Runwayshow Peter Jensen

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Copenhagen 12-08-2010 | 13:00 | Gallery

I was on a very tight schedule this thursday, but it became even tighter when the Peter Jensen show started 45 minutes late. In fashion that’s very common, but this time the main reason was that Mary, crown princess of Denamrk, was attending the show with a little delegation. I’ve been told that Mary is from Australia and that we could compare her popular status in Denmark a bit to our own Maxima. It would be great if Maxima would also attend a show at AIFW next time. I will not complain about a delayed start of shows because of that!

Peter Jensen

Peter Jensen has carved out a reputation as a designer whose impeccably produced creations thread together mischievous humour and a celebratory approach to individuality, with an attention to detail and lightness of touch. This approach is clearly apparent within his designs for both men and women – the results of which always deftly remain on the wearable side of unconventional. Based in London, though originally hailing from Logstor, Denmark, Jensen initially launched his eponymous menswear line immediately after graduating – with a Distinction – from Central Saint Martins, in 1999.

Peter Jensen Runwayshow SS 2011

This show and collection showed a look and approach to fashion of which I feel is very much fitting our social trends: Individual, but ‘sharing’, fun, simultaneously modern and timeless, and fun yet rather clever, too. Colourful and often total colourblocked outfits and combining luxery fabrics with white striped sportsocks and clowny teased hairs. The designs show a lot of ‘leg’ but I was also charmed by the maxi dresses! Have a look at the photogallery and my videoclip for a total impression

IS @ press show Copenhagen International Fashion Fair

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

I didn’t know that Copenhagen International Fashion Fair has become Europe’s fashion fair no. 1! Almost 1700 brands and 800 exhibitors were presenting at the last fair in februari this year. CIFF is becoming also more populair every season for the Dutch: In a total of 27.634 visitors (still a very small amount) 306 professionals from the Netherlands were attending the fair, which was twice as much as the season before.  The fair takes place in Bella Center, which is located in Copenhagen. I will visit this fair, but also Gallery and Terminal-2 tomorrow but this morning I went to the press presentation of the CIFF fair.

The press show started with a trendforecasting for summer 2011 by Nelly Rodi. After this interesting presentation a runwayshow was presented from a selection of exhibiting brands that visualised the trendstory even more. This show was very commercial of looks but well styled and presented but my seating was on a spot from which I couldn’t take great pictures.

IS meets Stilverket Berg

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

After a very early morning flight IS arrived safely in Denmark, Copenhagen. With IS WORKS I am joining a market orientation trip with 15 other entrepreneurs. This business trip is c ommissioned by Agentschap NL Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coöperation with Modint and prepared and guided by Market Link. As this trip was also planned during Copenhagen Fashion Week it didn’t took me long to decide, beginning of this year, to particpate. All the other entrepreneurs and businesses from Holland who joined sell a product, for me my product is me! I am excited to introduce IS WORKS and myself to parties in Copenhagen and tell my story in real life or through this blog which I will update in english in this daily update from Copenhagen.

Stilverket Berg

Maurice Groenteman, initiator of these orientation trips and representing MODINT, was joining me on my travel by train to Sweden. It took us 20 minutes to get from Copenhagen to Malmö where we would meet Mia Berg, owner of Stilverket Berg. Mia’s concept is about personal branding and a part of that is to give style advise to private persons but also to entrepreneurs and CEO’s. Mia is also a designer and a blogger on opinion and fashion and she is a teacher at Modefabriken. Her network in South Sweden is extensive. The meeting was set up because our concepts are quite alike and we were interested in eachothers (approach to the) market. Stilverket, in english, means Style Counsil by the way.

Mia Berg

Mia grew up in the 70′s as a child of very artistic parents. She learned how to sew, embroider and knit from her family. Mia has a very clear way of looking at fashion when it comes down to wanting to create only unique pieces (and no production) : Do it as a hobby please! While she was working at a travel agent she got inspiration for her ‘hobby’ around the world. When due to physical problems she could not do that work anymore she finally DID make a businessplan focussing on her own strengths and qualities (instead of only studying the market)
This autumn Mia will release a book about personal branding in which also clients of her are portrayed that she helped with their personal branding and look.

We had a very pleasant talk about the drives behind our mutual concepts and I got more insight in how the Danish work and think and how they are coming from a quite socialist economy and values into an economy where entrepreneurshiup is socially more accepted. How (fashion and design) educataion is far more practical than in Holland. Mia tells me that students are not educated (only) to be an independant designer and ‘their own label’ but to be an entrepreneur! (Think a while about the difference between these 2 options…..)

Thank you Mia for your time and your inspiration and I loved your spontanious remark which is saying much about your personality: ” I meet with everyone who wants to meet me!”
